What is Trauma?
Trauma has both a medical and psychological component. Medically, trauma refers to a serious or critical bodily injury, wound, or shock. Psychologically, trauma refers to an experience that is emotionally painful, distressful, or shocking, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects.
We Are Here to Care for You.
Our trauma service provides the comprehensive care that is recommended by the American College of Surgeons on a 24-hour basis. All care is under the close supervision of faculty physicians with special training and expertise in the management of the patient with multiple injuries.
The Mountain View Trauma department supports the integration of services of the hospital into the continuum of care for the trauma patient. We provide a trauma program that serves as an educational and clinical resource for local and regional trauma service providers, including physicians, nurses, paramedics and other clinical personnel involved in the care of injured patients. Our program ensures trauma care that is consistent with state and national trauma standards.
The purpose of the Mountain View Trauma Program is to:
- Provide evidence based care to patients meeting trauma criteria throughout their hospitalization
- Maintain state and national requirements for designation
- Serve as a resource to the community through referrals, outreach, education and injury prevention
The Utah Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Preparedness, designated Mountain View Hospital as a Level IV Trauma Center. This designation recognizes our hospital’s efforts to better serve severely injured patients with high-quality trauma care.
To earn this recognition, the trauma team at Mountain View Hospital actively advocated for trauma system development, enhanced our emergency services to include trauma care, and worked to deliver it quickly and efficiently. As a result, UDOH certified that our community hospital meets all standards of care related to trauma treatment in Utah.
Additionally, our emergency room nurses are certified in the National Emergency Nurse Association's courses: Trauma Nurse Corp Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC).
