Mountain View Hospital in Payson has provided excellent care to the residents of Southern Utah County since 1979. The first hospital in Payson was opened in 1914 by a local physician, Dr. A.L Curtis and his wife, Annie.
Soon, the hospital boasted 15 beds and a medical staff of 2 physicians. In 1922, a tonsillectomy was provided for $5 and the delivery of a baby cost $30. The hospital was able to break even with the help of the local Relief Society ladies who canned fruit and vegetables and assisted with the preparation and serving of patient meals.
In 1936, Payson City built a 35 bed hospital at the urging of Dr. Curtis. The hospital grew to serve the needs of a growing population. In 1977, HCA purchased the 93 bed facility and began construction of a new facility east of town that became known as Mountain View Hospital due to the fact that most patient rooms have a commanding view of the surrounding mountains.
